Writing is a pretty solitary career. Unlike many other fields, an author can literally go through their entire career without actually having to talk to anyone. My first two manuscripts were written in coffee shops all over Chicago by my lonesome self. So it is a rarity that friendships grow between two authors who, though thousands of miles away, share a strong bond based on our writing. Basically, Laura Lam is my literary best friend. Yes, I categorize my friendships based on industry. Damn you Google+! And yes, that’s her in her sexy pose. Laura, really? Horizontal stripes? Come on, girl. She’s young, she’s talented, and she’s going to be a literary force to reckon with in the very near future.
Today is a big day for her. Here is the press release from Strange Chemistry Books, signing her to a two book deal, starting with her fantastic “Pantomime,” a riveting young adult novel set in a magical world about the circus, love, more love, deep dark secrets, and pubescent angst (What YA novel doesn’t have angst?). So congratulations Laura! You deserve all that recognition for your hard work! You can learn more about Laura here.

Hey, I rock those horizontal stripes. You betta recognise.
Thanks so much, literary BFF!
